Before the current building, the Scholasticum was the Our Lady of Assumption Academy. Opening her doors in 1923, 37 years after the Parish's Founding, Assumption Academy educated Chadron area Catholics under the formation of the Sisters of Mercy until 1971. At that time, due to population shifts and aging Sisters, the Academy was forced to close.

From 1971 to March of 2024 the Our Lady of Assumption Academy School served as a hub for Religious Education, adult formation, Bible studies, small group meetings, and the Parish Office. The building, however, was aging. With the rising cost of maintenance, severe weather damage, the need for ADA accessibility, and a faltering support structure the Academy building was laid to rest; making way for a new building.

Construction on a new Parish building, to accommodate both the Office and Faith Formation, began in 2024. By the fall of 2025 the new building, a Scholasticum (place of learning to think with the philosophy and theology of the Church) was ready to welcome Parishioners. In addition to housing the Parish Office and Religious Education sessions, the Scholasticum hosts a variety of meetings, ministries, and small group studies. It is here, in the Scholasticum, that we dive deeper into the thought of Christ in His Church. Here we discover the facts of the One we encounter in the Most Blessed Sacrament, the Eucharist (John 6).

Sitting directly east of the Scholasticum is the Our Lady of Assumption Arena. The Arena was added to the Academy property in 1953. It served the Academy and Parish well. When the Academy closed the Arena began hosting additional Parish activities, community events, the Knights of Columbus, and the Rummage Room. Her service continues on today.
Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
